BR-DE-3: Your own town is missing from the address. How to fix it

Your own address as the seller has no town or city (BT-37). XRechnung requires one, just as it does for your customer's address.

Error: the invoice is refusedFrom the German additional rules (XRechnung)

The rule, in its own words

Das Element "Seller city" (BT-37) muss übermittelt werden.

Fields involved: BT-37

What the rule checks

The rule checks that the seller's address contains a town. The European norm leaves it optional; XRechnung makes it mandatory. It is the same check as BR-DE-8, applied to your own address instead of your customer's.

Why files fail it

  • Your own company data holds only a name, a street and a country, with no town.
  • Your address is stored as one block of text, copied from the letterhead for instance, instead of separate fields for street, postcode and town. Only the separate fields count for the check.
  • Postcode and town share the postcode field, such as "10115 Berlin". The town field is then left empty.

How to fix it

  1. Add the town to your own address. The field is "Seller city" (BT-37) in the standard.
  2. Check whether your software splits your company address into separate fields. A single address box is not enough.
  3. Postcode and town are two separate mandatory fields; see BR-DE-4 for your postcode and BR-DE-8 for your customer's town.
  4. In our form it is the "City" field in the "Your details" section, next to the postcode. The invoice cannot be generated without it.

Check your file

Upload your invoice. It runs through the same official validator that applies this rule, and you see immediately whether it passes now.
