PEPPOL-EN16931-R010: Your customer's electronic address is missing. How to fix it
Your invoice is missing your customer's electronic address (BT-49). XRechnung validation requires it under the Peppol rules.
The rule, in its own words
Buyer electronic address MUST be provided
Fields involved: BT-49
What the rule checks
The rule checks that the invoice contains an electronic address for the buyer, the field "Buyer electronic address" (BT-49). This is an identifier at which your customer receives electronic invoices, such as an email address or a Leitweg-ID, together with a scheme that says what kind of identifier it is. The rule comes from the Peppol rule set; XRechnung validation runs it as well. It checks only that the address is present.
Why files fail it
- An email address is held for the customer, but your software writes it only into the contact details. The electronic address is a separate field with its own scheme; adding another email address to the contact block does not change that.
- The customer record has a field for the electronic address, but it was never filled because no invoice needed it until now.
- For an authority, the Leitweg-ID was entered only as the buyer reference (BT-10), on the assumption that it covered the electronic address too. They are two separate fields.
How to fix it
- Enter your customer's electronic address. The field is "Buyer electronic address" (BT-49) in the standard, and it has two parts: the address itself and the scheme.
- For an email address the scheme is EM; for a Leitweg-ID it is 0204. Only your customer can tell you which address they expect; do not invent one.
- Address and scheme belong together. If the address is in the file without a scheme, the validator reports BR-63.
- In our form the "Email" field under "Customer details" is mandatory. We write that address into the file as your customer's electronic address with the scheme EM, so this message cannot arise on an invoice made here.
Check your file
Upload your invoice. It runs through the same official validator that applies this rule, and you see immediately whether it passes now.
