PEPPOL-EN16931-R020: Your own electronic address is missing. How to fix it

Your invoice is missing your own electronic address as the seller (BT-34). XRechnung validation requires it under the Peppol rules.

Error: the invoice is refusedFrom the Peppol rules that XRechnung validation also applies

The rule, in its own words

Seller electronic address MUST be provided

Fields involved: BT-34

What the rule checks

The rule checks that the invoice contains an electronic address for the seller, the field "Seller electronic address" (BT-34). This is your own identifier at which you can be reached electronically, for example an email address, together with a scheme that says what kind of identifier it is. The rule comes from the Peppol rule set; XRechnung validation runs it as well.

Why files fail it

  • No electronic address is held in your software's company settings, so the invoice is produced without one.
  • You entered your contact person's email address (BT-43) and assumed that was enough. It is a different field; the electronic address is required in addition.
  • The template or the export writes an electronic address for the customer only, not for you.

How to fix it

  1. Enter your own electronic address. The field is "Seller electronic address" (BT-34) in the standard, and it consists of the address and a scheme.
  2. For an email address the scheme is EM. Use an address somebody actually reads, such as your accounts address.
  3. Put the address into your own master data so it appears on every future invoice. If it is in the file without a scheme, the validator reports BR-62.
  4. In our form the "Email" field under "Your details" is mandatory. We write that address into the file as your electronic address with the scheme EM, and also as your contact person's email address.

Check your file

Upload your invoice. It runs through the same official validator that applies this rule, and you see immediately whether it passes now.
